Drawing its name from the playful shape of the seat back, the Penguin Rocking Chair was designed by Danish furniture designer and architect Ib Kofod-Larsen. Belonging to the same generation as his more famous colleagues Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen, Kofod-Larsen drew inspiration from the natural beauty of wood and raw materials.

These light and modern chairs were originally launched in 1953 by the U.S. furniture company Selig, and are highly collectible today. The Penguin series has now been taken into production by Brdr. Petersen, a small Danish studio of skilled carpenters founded in 1973 by brothers Egon & Erling Petersen.

The Penguin Series includes a dining chair, a low lounge chair and a rocking chair. All models feature a seat back with veneer in oak, walnut or teak, and seat upholstery in various leather. The frame is made from powder-coated steel, with rockers in natural or black-stained ash. Every piece of furniture is handmade by skilled craftsmen in Denmark.
